Research, Education, Administration, and Development for Health Informatics (READI) Core Scientific Director

Responsible for the strategic direction of the core, including the acquisition of instrumentation or expertise to align with UNMC's research strategic goals and meetfuture needs of investigators. Provides services and consultation to researchers and investigators to facilitate highly technical and specialized scientific research. Leads the core in all relevant areas to ensure consistent, compliant, high-quality service for the research community.

Administrative | Plans, directs, organizes and controls activities, personnel and facilities for a research project(s);In partnership with the READi Core Operations Director: develops and implements guidelines and standards for core operations; sets up facilities and schedules personnel to meet project needs based on established protocol; recommends budget allocations and expenditures within the approved budget; composes progress reports, annual reports, grant writing, staff selection, and staff evaluations; assists the Operations Director in ensuring monthly billing is completed per policy. Establish and execute business plans for the READI core research facility. Ultimately responsible for compliance with all billing requirements. Works with Nebraska Medicine and other UNMC clinical affiliates to ensure compliant data request fulfillment.Prepares grant proposals and in support of large programmatic grants, or to support other faculty independentresearch programs.
Technical | Develops high complex and relevant data science to core technologies and applications. Utilizes advanced knowledge of applications, principles, theories, and concepts to design and troubleshoot projects for the research community, often requiring analysis of multiple factors. Frequently works on new methods for expanding or improving core services to align with emerging applications in various disciplines. Consults with principal investigator(s) on a continuing basis. Provides interpretation of data, recommendations regarding changes or modifications to methods, guidelines and standards effecting established protocol. Optimize utilization of scientific core facility and equipment.
Information and Data Management | Together with the READi Core Operations Director, collaborates with UNMC and NM IT, privacy and staff todevelop, maintain and fund a suitable compute and data management environment for core. Prioritizes and sets goals to meet short, medium, and long-term needs of core. Oversees/reviews workflow and task assignments to core personnel. May train research personnel.
Communication | Creates formal networks with key decision makers. Serves as a strategic leader both internal and external to the organization. Possesses highly polished written and verbal communication skills. Effective listener. Organizes, presents, and/or attends external training, courses, seminars, and/or workshops related to core activities.
Independence/ Guidance | Reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research. Minimal supervision is received from an assigned supervisor. Work is guided by an advanced understanding of the technology or specific field and understanding offaculty investigators' research goals. Leveraging significant technical knowledge, may develop new assays, procedures, or techniques to adequately address research questions.
Supervisory Responsibility | Supervises research and support personnel for one or multiple projects with authority for training, work direction, hiring, firing and personnel actions, in collaboration with the READi Core Operations Director.
Data Analysis | Develops information and materials for presentation and publication; attends conferences and meetings to explain and discuss project objectives, methodology, findings and conclusions; conducts formal presentations and workshops; co-author manuscripts and articles for publication. Acts as advisor and liaison with other research personnel, professionals and students regarding interpretation and application of research methods and the use of laboratory facilities. Maintains and active research agenda and program within the field of health informatics data sciences.
